How NZ bond limits work

- What is the maximum bond in New Zealand?
- For a standard (general) residential bond, the Residential Tenancies Act caps the amount at 4 weeks' rent. A separate pet bond of up to 2 weeks' rent may apply in addition when a pet is approved — this calculator covers the general bond only.
- How soon must I lodge a bond with Tenancy Services?
- Once you receive the bond, you must lodge it with Tenancy Services within 23 working days. Holding a bond privately is not allowed.
